In the roaring twenties and then during the Nazi era, the two produced many hits for escapist musicals, especially for superstar Zarah Leander. Using subversive overtones, they try to destabilise Goebbels’ propaganda. Contemporary witnesses, who are eager to tell stories, take us on a brilliant journey through five decades of German film and music history that makes you want to (re)discover forgotten classics and shows how strongly music has shaped popular culture.
Jihun is a 19-year-old trainee working at a small factory, where he is paired with Wooseok, his indifferent and careless supervisor. When a problem arises with a client, Jihun, who doesn’t have a Driver’s license, happens to take the wheel. This is a film with an impressively warm gaze on the bleak lives of the two workers from different generations.
Taesan and Dongju are a long-time couple. As they prepare to move, they find an old sofa on the street and bring it home. Their cramped apartment, now filled with the sofa, the couple preparing for their move, and their Dreams, are depicted with an air of detachment. The film captures their emotions with a unique rhythm, floating in the air.

The film’s title says it all: the Schwörer family of eight from eastern Switzerland have been living on a sailing ship for 20 years. They traverse the world’s oceans, striving to live in harmony with nature, and give talks on land to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation. Director Livia Vonaesch has followed the parents and their six chilDren with her camera for several years at sea. The result is an intimate portrait of a fascinating family living the great Dream of boundless freedom in a confined space. 'It takes tremendous courage to film with a camera on the high seas and in confined surroundings. It is even more impressive if you have the talent to reach for the camera precisely when the unexpected happens.
Known for her intimate films, director Kim O’Bomsawin (Call Me Human) invites viewers into the lives of Indigenous youth in this absorbing new documentary. Shot over six years, the film brings us the moving stories, Dreams, and experiences of three groups of chilDren and teens from different Indigenous nations: Atikamekw, Eeyou Cree, and Innu. In following these young people through the formative years of their childhood and right through their high school years, we witness their daily lives, their ideas, and aspirations for themselves and their communities, as well as some of the challenges they face. Notable for the complete absence of adult voices, expert commentary, and narration, the documentary allows these young people to speak confidently, insightfully, and with raw honesty and vulnerability, shaping the film themselves. The result is a captivating journey that becomes a call to action for the many voices, perspectives, and ambitions of this next generation to be heard.

Living a life tied to an old, worn-down house, Nidhi makes a phone call to her childhood self. “You are me,” she says. In the film, the protagonist moves through the house, capturing sounds with a boom mic and transmitting her words back to the past. In the place full of spirits, the interplay between past and present is expressed through sounds. Nidhi’s childhood memories are stained with the absence of her father and her mother’s depression, and now, as an adult, she finds herself sinking into the same deep depression her mother once experienced. Poetically portraying a woman’s inner world, this film presents a mother-daughter relationship tangled in love and resentment, all seeming to merge into a single character—the narrator. In the final scene, as Nidhi finally steps out of the house, the camera, which had been confined to the dark interior of the house, captures a ghostly gaze moving across an open space, layering the scene with deeper meaning.

Suddenly, Pink Face, a creepy pink-masked, pink-suited villain, and their goons attack. Pink Face tells Willa that the war against the Straights has just begun, serving her a veiled challenge to pick a side. With one grenade pull, Pink Face disappears in a cloud of pink smoke, leaving Willa and Jamie to wonder whether they are on the right side.

A self-reflecting collage made up of the director’s thoughts and moods while relocating to an alien, poetic Zurich. Lucky Girl SynDrome can be confusing, which rarely happens in cinema anymore. Al Souliman’s film is a diaristic correspondence that she creates form Zürich for those back home, filming herself in postcard-like landscapes, narrated by a distant yet sensitive voiceover — or rather a sensitively cold one, for she doesn’t let the images consume their self-evident imagery, that implicit ‘I am well’ suggested by every postcard. She’s not well in Switzerland but wishes she were: happier, wealthier, more Swiss, more self-confident. There is no ‘but’ in al Souliman’s short (which would have been an exercise in montage), but only ‘at the same time’ (which is an exercise in composition) — everything is beautiful and at the same time not so much.
