Jamal Hindawi (50), Palestinian, lives with his family in Shatila camp in Beirut, where he makes political theatre. He is currently working on a play that tells the story of an old jacket that symbolises the Palestinian identity. But the evening before the premiere, Jamal loses the theatre prop. He starts a nightly journey through the streets of Beirut and is confronted with a city in radical transition.
Tim lost his father a few months ago. Today, he is about to break up with his boyfriend Émile. Confined to his home, Tim delves into the memories of their relationship, mingled with those of his father. Refusing to accept the separation, he embarks on a desperate digital hunt to find Émile.
Tel Aviv, 2020. A second COVID lockdown is impending. After writing yet another article against Prime Minister Netanyahu, the journalist’s mobile is flooded with hateful messages. Meanwhile, he tries in vain to get to his autistic son at a hostel, while his parents, sick of the lockdowns and of each other, are looking to him for help. Later on his daughter, who is at an anti-Netanyahu protest turned violent, won’t pick up her phone, sending him and his wife on a drive to Jerusalem to look for her. On the way, they are forced to face their relationship issues. Late that night, his family is finally reunited and he finds some consolation while his beloved country is in turmoil. The protests against Netanyahu and his corrupt government are yet again beginning to gain momentum.
Jem Cohen brings the same meditative elegance and intellectual curiosity he did to Museum Hours (2012) with his stargazing new feature, again using the cinematic form to patiently interrogate ways of seeing and being. The principal subject of Cohen’s film is an Austrian astronomer named Karl who has been re-evaluating his work and life after turning 70, and who travels to a mountaintop on a Greek island in search of the darkest sky against which to view the cosmos. Yet the real matter of the singular Little, Big, and Far—whose title refers to the three concepts Karl and his physicist wife believe are at the core of their work—is as vast as the universe itself, a reckoning with scientific truth at a moment of humanity’s existential crisis.
In this densely told ensemble piece, three siblings are confronted with their family’s tragic past. The three meet again on a summer’s day to clear out their family home before putting it on the market. While they sort through the things, one sister comes across a mysterious photo of a young man, whose memory still haunts her today. It seems to have been taken outside the house on the day of his fatal accident. As she can’t remember taking the picture, she starts researching and at some point she is sure that the photographer was someone else. Layer by layer, she uncovers a past that contains a bitter truth.
In a small zoo, the arrival of the hippopotamus ZaFari is celebrated by neighbours of opposing social classes. Ana, Edgar and their son Bruno watch all the action from the windows of their decadent high-class building. Amidst a chaos of food, water and electricity shortages, the family has to solve everyday problems and the lack of basic needs while trying to find a solution to escape. Ana scavenges for food in the abandoned apartments, but strange noises in the dark corridors frighten her more and more. In a world that has become wild, ZaFari is the only one who still has enough to eat.

Now back in Tehran, she finds her friends isolated and suffering. On her last night, they gather at Malihe's place and, in Morteza's absence, transform the apartment into a stage to perform a banned play.
