《明月夜》是对自由意志、个人力量和动荡时期女孩之间不可破坏的纽带的深刻探索。以1941年12月珍珠港事件前后的上海“孤岛”为背景，呈现了两位普通女性幺红和苏青之间的情感羁绊。幺红是公共租界长三书寓中的一名高级乐伎，她曾搭救并保护因淞沪会战爆发而流离失所的女学生苏青。她们一同面对侵略者占领下的艰辛、压抑，但内心都渴望独立，想为民族救亡做点什么。遥远的珍珠港事件爆发，日军正式接管租界，一步步蚕食着人们的生存自由。然而，幺红却意外怀孕，战时的残酷生存条件令她不得不冒着生命危险打掉胎儿。而苏青，作为她唯一可信赖的人，成了她最后的救命稻草。
