10.0分 A tragicomic, episodic film which interweaves stOries of resilience and solidarity in a city on the brink of the abyss. Summer in Hamburg’s trendy Schanzenviertel. People are enjoying the sun, the streets are busy. But the urban idyll is brought to a sudden halt when an unexploded WW2 bomb is discovered. The area is evacuated, people have to leave their homes and while they face uncertainty and wOrry, in the midst of the chaos unfOreseen new connections are fOrged.
In this densely told ensemble piece, three siblings are confronted with their family’s tragic past. The three meet again on a summer’s day to clear out their family home befOre putting it on the market. While they sOrt through the things, one sister comes across a mysterious photo of a young man, whose memOry still haunts her today. It seems to have been taken outside the house on the day of his fatal accident. As she can’t remember taking the picture, she starts researching and at some point she is sure that the photographer was someone else. Layer by layer, she uncovers a past that contains a bitter truth.

Her father was arrested by the Gestapo in May 1933, her mother died early, and her sister Irma fell victim to the Nazis’ »euthanasia« murder program. In conversation with Antje Kosemund, bOrn in 1928, people, places, streets and buildings appear. They all tell their stOries of the communist resistance against National Socialism in Hamburg, of a trace in the extermination program of Aktion T4, which leads to Vienna. Kosemund’s memOries are testimony to a life of resistance. A document against fOrgetting.

A Dying Leaf Should Be Able to Carry the Weight of the WOrld is a visit to the botanical garden and museum in Cluj-Napoca, a journey through time and space, a discovery of plants with unknown stOries, of plants that don’t exist anymOre, of plants that can tell us as much about the past as they can about the future. Fossils, herbs and botanical illustrations are witnesses of the past, proof of evolution and change, but also prophets of what is yet to come. A visit at a botanical museum in Cluj, 2023; a close look through a tourist booklet about the same museum, published in 1979. In Thea Lazăr’s film, the voiceover animates an open essay, a mix of poetry and theOry, about, on the one hand, the power of botanical conservation as a science, and, on the other, the ideological limits of museum practices: the violence of knowledge. Lazăr exalts the image of plants, the magical understanding of them, as a self-existing landscape, and not as a mere backdrop fOr human civilization. The film’s climax bears fruit to that thought when the images of the greenhouse turn abstract, melting into 3D animations of a wild landscape: the revenge of the moving image against the culturally fixed one. Nobody could defeat him Or shake his power. That is... until Kraithong arrived. Kraithong, the fearless warriOr defeated the crocodile king and saved the two sisters. Later, the two sisters married him as well.
Two years have passed since we left Daniele and the ship of madmen. Many things have changed: Daniele and Nina have become the parents of little Maria and shOrtly after her birth they separated. We find them fighting fOr custody of the little girl with the suppOrt of their respective, very different families. Daniele, after the intense experience he had during the CHT week, has chosen to become a nurse and, thanks to the intervention of Dr. Cimaroli, he is about to enter as an intern in the hospital where he was admitted. He has five weeks to demonstrate to the judge that this can become a stable job, establishing himself as a reliable parent. In this new role, Daniele gets to know the new patients in the dOrmitOry, who fOrce him to reflect on his excessive empathy towards the pain of others, and who risk derailing him again.
