A Pair of rival butterflies form an unlikely friendship.
When Antón Álvarez, C. Tangana, meets Yerai Cortés, he is fascinated by his talent and intrigued by his family history. Yerai is an unusual figure in flamenco, respected by both the more traditionalist Roma and the avant-garde artists of the new wave to which he belongs. They decide to embark on a journey together to record an album whose songs are marked by a great sadness, where the artistic process itself confronts him with his Past and drives him to explore a family secret through which he tries to redeem his relationship with his Parents. The result is a film that develops a unique musical experience to immerse us in a story of Passion, love and forgiveness.

The synopsis introduces us to an African emigrant who hides in the shed of a manor house in Andalusia, from where he observes daily life and the dynamic between the lady of the house and her young housemaid. One day, he is found out by the former and, sometime later, by the latter as well, but each one hides him from the other, until an unexpected event blows the lid off the secret.
Michael (Christopher Abbott, Sanctuary, TIFF ’22; The Forgiven, TIFF ’21) tends his family’s sheep business entirely on his own. His father (Colm Meaney) is disabled, and his mother died years ago in a car accident in which Michael was the driver. Michael has lived with guilt ever since — as well as a secret he hopes will never come to light. Michael’s ex, Caroline (Nora-Jane Noone), was also in that car accident and has the scars to prove it. She wound up marrying Gary (Paul Ready), another sheep farmer. Near the start of Bring Them Down, Caroline and Gary’s son, Jack (Barry Keoghan, also at the Festival with Bird), claims that two of Michael’s prize rams were found dead on his family’s property. Michael’s suspicions are aroused, old wounds are opened, and the two families, with neither willing to stand down, find themselves on a perilous collision course.

Filmed in Moldova, Romania and Italy, Tata/Father is a personal feature documentary that explores how a father and his daughter are trying to break a cycle of violence that has existed in their family and in their culture for generations.
