Unearthing layers of earth, melting, shaping, and creating for the future. The practices of Germans Ermičs and Artis Nīmanis differ, so do the materials they use, yet both are among the most internationally acclaimed Latvian designers. What unites them is their dedication to materiality, though they each follow different personal and creative paths. Ermičs’ “magic of material and colour” emerges from glass, marble, and metal – he moves freely between the Netherlands, Latvia, and Portugal, as well as between the disciplines of design and visual art. Meanwhile in Latvia, under the brand “an&angel” Nīmanis deconstructs the concept of glass – in each of his pieces, he breathes a sense of the presence of nature.
ExpanSion is a visual investigation of proliferation, growth through repetition and accumulation. Continuous expanSion and endless repetition are permanent fixtures of contemporary life, and this video utilizes found footage and 3D software to play with loops, repetition, and nightmarish viSions of replication. Inky digital blemishes bleed into the visual collages, and wash away the image as the expanding “carchitecture” inevitably collapses.
Synopsis On the prestigious occaSion of the one-hundredth anniversary of the Corriere dello Sport, one of the most widely-read daily newspapers in Italy, the documentary explores the deep essence of sports, a veritable social and cultural collector, and the evolution in the they are practiced and reported. COMMENTARY The story unfurls from a double perspective: on the one hand, it gives a voice to the great athletes and protagonists of Italia sports; on the other, it documents the foundation, production and distribution of the newspaper, a veritable archive of our country’s collective memory. The result is a powerful and compelling account in which stories and anecdotes are destined to remain eternal, to shape the way that Italians experience and celebrate their sporting pasSions. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT For 100 years, the print media have been part of the history of our country, like in many other countries in the world, offering daily information, stories and anecdotes to millions of readers. What would sports be without information? Would sports legends be created if no one was there to tell their story?
