When faced with failure, all she’s ever been able to do is lose herself. "Because you’re tedious and you don’t know how to look after other people", the Madonna tells her the first time they speak, desacraliZing her crisis and inciting her to react. As a result, Elisa, her sister, her screenwriter and the failed film’s lead actor set off on a journey on board a ship, headed for a sanctuary which they know little to nothing about. Each of them has something to resolve, a knot to untie, much like all the other pilgrims on the boat.

Ola strives to bring the three of them closer and reconnect the broken family bonds. Before that happens, recalling painful memories will cause the siblings to clash even more. Ola realises that each of them is dealing with trauma in their own way – alone and unable to cope. By confronting her family, she manages to break the tension that has been lingering in the air.

In 1904, there was a case that shook Switzerland: Frieda Keller was sentenced to death. A former victim of rape, the 25-year-old seamstress killed her son Ernstli, whose father was her attacker, and buried the five-year-old’s body in the forest. Shortly afterwards, the body was found, and the woman – a distraught mother, victim and perpetrator all at once – confessed to the crime. In addition to the authorities and her own family, the misogynistic laws of that time were also stacked against her. Despite fierce protests from the populace, Frieda was first sentenced to death at the end of a public trial in St Gall in front of hundreds of onlookers, and was subsequently “pardoned” with a life sentence in solitary confinement. Not only was the bigoted pardon a disgrace, but the fact that her rapist, the married man Carl Zimmerli, was never brought to justice was shameful. Indeed, the law at the time protected married men who assaulted women. The spectacular case raises the question of how much of a victim there is in the perpetrator. It significantly influenced debates on women's rights and a fairer society, as well as the development of the criminal justice system in Switzerland.

Eines Tages heftet sich ein kleines Mädchen (Yuna Bennett) an seine Fersen und begleitet ihn bei seiner Lieferung. Anfangs gar nicht begeistert findet Carl immer mehr gefallen daran, mit dem Mädchen zu reden und so kommt es, dass sie ihn regelmäßig begleitet, und der schüchterne Mann beginnt sich zu öffnen. Gemeinsam begeben sie sich auf eine unerwartete Reise, bei der sich Carl mit seiner Vergangenheit auseinandersetzt und dabei neue Freundschaften und Erlebnisse entdeckt. Woman, life, freedom! After the death of a young Iranian woman in Teheran, thousands take to the streets – in Germany too. Portrait of a protest which brought different generations together. On 13th September 2022, Jina Mahsa Amini was arrested by the Iranian vice squad because she was wearing her headscarf wrongly. Three days later, she died in custody. Her death set off a howl of protest all over the world. Many exiled Iranians, who fled the new regime in Tehran in the 1970s, protested – but also 2nd generation German-Iranians like Jasmin Shakeri, Pegah Ferydoni, Natalie Amiri and Enissa Amani. Together they took to the streets to help the old country find freedom.
