This short collage piece constructs a pseudo-narrative on the dangers of media seduction, addiction and withdrawal from reality. Mainstream science fiction film and TV is manipulated via analog video synthesis and assembled into a musical montage of sensory overload. Paranoid psychosis is not as rare as it once was.
Semi-precious is a portrait of my mother, a retired holistic practitioner framed through her crystals, supplements, jewelry, healing instruments and household adornments. Handwritten labels populate the exteriors of these objects to recall their emotional or spiritual use and are a vital remedy to her memory loss. Geologic and mortal time become enmeshed through weathered landscapes, wrinkled hands, vibrating exercise machines, sound representations of planets, resonant quartz crystals in clock faces and the profile of the oldest earth rock identified, the moon.
The documentary is a celebration of the long and glorious history of one of the most important film production companies in italy, with a focus on the different generations of the Lombardo family who, with passion and innovation, made and continue to make Titanus a reference point for italian and international cinema. The Titanus adventure begins with the dawn of silent cinema, first in Naples, before transferring to Rome in the 1930s, where its production evolves with the advent of sound. A key moment for Titanus is the launch of the career of legendary actor Totò, with the film Hands Off Me! The story continues with Gustavo’s son, Goffredo Lombardo, who in the 1950s and 1960s takes Titanus to new heights, producing films of great artistic merit, such as The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers, thereby consolidating the reputation of the company worldwide. Through exclusive interviews, the documentary explores the production of some of the best-loved films of all time, including The Professor, Bread, Love and Dreams and Two Women, for which Sophia Loren won the Oscar for Best Actress. The documentary is narrated by actress Valentina Corti, who takes us on a journey that is not only a celebration of the past but also a reflection on how Titanus has been able to adapt to changes in the film industry while remaining faithful to its mission to produce cinema that is both artistic and popular.

She wanted to talk about her conversion to Catholicism, but maybe she wasn’t enough of a believer? "in God or in the film?", we ask ourselves, but not even she can answer this question. When faced with failure, all she’s ever been able to do is lose herself. "Because you’re tedious and you don’t know how to look after other people", the Madonna tells her the first time they speak, desacralizing her crisis and inciting her to react. As a result, Elisa, her sister, her screenwriter and the failed film’s lead actor set off on a journey on board a ship, headed for a sanctuary which they know little to nothing about. Each of them has something to resolve, a knot to untie, much like all the other pilgrims on the boat.
