L’arte di Mario Merola è stata multimediale: canzone, teatro, cinema. Ma è soprattutto alla sceneggiata che ha legato la sua fama e la sua grandezza: un teatro dei poveri, un’arte popolare che Merola affrontava con un’adesione e un’autorevolezza totale. Solo negli anni Settanta intellettuali come Goffredo Fofi (qui intervistato insieme a tanti altri: da Nino D’Angelo a Maurizio de Giovanni, da Marisa laurito a Valerio Caprara) si accorsero di lui: ma non per fare un esercizio di rivalutazione camp, dall’alto. Perché per capire Merola, le sue radici in una cultura e società, secolare, occorre entrare nel suo mondo. Questo fa il documentario biografico di Ferrari, dando comunque spazio anche a operazioni imprevedibili come Westmoreland Naples di Marcello Garofalo, in cui Merola affrontò il mondo di Jean Vigo, Fassbinder e Allen Ginsberg: come sempre, con una credibilità e un’umiltà straordinarie.

Through a symbolic visual journey, the film takes us through the genesis of Breathless, which the producer agreed to finance on the evidence of a synopsis of only four pages; the restrictions and censorship of Le Petit Soldat and The Carabineers, the extraordinary epic of Contempt and Pierrot le Fou, and the experimental video journey of Number Two. Each movie is different, each movie is an adventure. Each visual and sound universe surrounding the story is special and increases the audience’s immersion in the experience. Being Godard and Beauregard, by going into the details of unpublished photographs, the correspondence between the producer and his director, recorded conversations, all underscored by the narrator's voice, will introduce the viewer to little-known anecdotes and the history of cinema, with a capital H. Or rather with a capital G, for Godard.
landforms unearths the physical remains of past and future geological strata. The film explores two landscapes, an industrial rock quarry turned recreational fossil hunting park, in which 380-million-year-old fossils were discovered beneath the rocks where once flowed a shallow sea, and a public waterway whose shore is dispersed with brightly colored fragments of consumer waste in the form of microplastics. Both landscapes reveal a process of digging and gathering, of collecting evidence of earth’s pre-historic past or intervening in humanity’s toxic futures. The forms, of ancient sea creatures and broken plastic, mesh and intertwine into a meditation on deep time and a reflection on extinction.

The practices of Germans Ermičs and Artis Nīmanis differ, so do the materials they use, yet both are among the most internationally acclaimed latvian designers. What unites them is their dedication to materiality, though they each follow different personal and creative paths. Ermičs’ “magic of material and colour” emerges from glass, marble, and metal – he moves freely between the Netherlands, latvia, and Portugal, as well as between the disciplines of design and visual art. Meanwhile in latvia, under the brand “an&angel” Nīmanis deconstructs the concept of glass – in each of his pieces, he breathes a sense of the presence of nature.
