Known for her intimate films, director Kim O’Bomsawin (Call Me Human) invites viewers into the lives of Indigenous youth in this absorbing new documentary. Shot over six years, the film brings us the moving stories, dreams, and experiences of three groups of Children and teens from different Indigenous nations: Atikamekw, Eeyou Cree, and Innu. In following these young people through the formative years of their Childhood and right through their high school years, we witness their daily lives, their ideas, and aspirations for themselves and their communities, as well as some of the challenges they face. Notable for the complete absence of adult voices, expert commentary, and narration, the documentary allows these young people to speak confidently, insightfully, and with raw honesty and vulnerability, shaping the film themselves. The result is a captivating journey that becomes a call to action for the many voices, perspectives, and ambitions of this next generation to be heard.

Woman, life, freedom! After the death of a young Iranian woman in Teheran, thousands take to the streets – in Germany too. Portrait of a protest which brought different generations together. On 13th September 2022, Jina Mahsa Amini was arrested by the Iranian vice squad because she was wearing her headscarf wrongly. Three days later, she died in custody. Her death set off a howl of protest all over the world. Many exiled Iranians, who fled the new regime in Tehran in the 1970s, protested – but also 2nd generation German-Iranians like Jasmin Shakeri, Pegah Ferydoni, Natalie Amiri and Enissa Amani. Together they took to the streets to help the old country find freedom.

American Chick is inspired by the life story of a woman, called Ema Černá in the film, whom the director met during his period of homelessness and who tries to carry on living her life against all odds. Černá goes through an orphanage, foster care and a detention centre. She endures the ordeals – including bullying and beatings – driven by the desire to meet her father, who supposedly lives in the USA (she was born there and was brought to Czechoslovakia at the age of nine by her mother, who then abandoned her). The director calls American Chick “a probe into the history of the Czechoslovakia of the 1980s and 1990s” and “a contemporary drama about freedom, ostracism and the desire to live”. The theatrical version centres on Childhood, while the film will follow the protagonist through different moments in her life, into the present day. However, the stigma that the protagonist bears continues to have an influence on her life. The dream of finding her father in the USA is vanishing, and she has to learn to come to terms with her own faults and accept her fate.
In a small province in Thailand, the life of the former Thai veteran, Yong, casually seems like a typical old man. Even though he currently feels unwell, Yong spends every day with the dream of building a tree-house solely with his own hand, and raising an intelligent niece. At his house, there is a black Thai dog called Rambo. It has peculiar eyes to see mystery of the world after death and special senses in connecting with the past. One morning, the first light of the day has lasted longer than usual. The morning sun pauses the moment; it would not come up from the horizon. Yong senses the coming of death.

Built over the natural sulphur springs, the Sulphur Baths building in Split is a space dedicated to the care of both body and soul. Moving away from the traditional historicization, this experimental film essay examines the classic mode of presenting arChitecture – its complexity and the reasons behind the construction and disappearance of a building. The act of combining static and moving images, as well as verbal and non-verbal sounds, results in active, critical and discursive material; the artist is dealing with the „arChitecture“ of the film itself.
