Everest is the highest mountain in the world and annually attracts hundreds of climbers from all over the world. The vast majority are white men with the financial conditions to pay for the undertaking, in the region of R$ 400.000,00. Aretha Duarte, born in a poor neighborhood in Campinas, becomes in 2021 the first black latin woman to reach the summit. Her journey begins long before climbing the mountain: to pay for the trip, she works collecting recyclables and triggers an environmental awareness process in her neighborhood that expands through social media and makes her a public figure who inspires through her obstinacy and strength. Her dream is that more people from backgrounds like hers can reach their peaks.
