L’arte di Mario Merola è stata multimediale: canzone, teatro, cinema. Ma è soprattutto alla sceneggiata che ha legato la sua fama e la sua grandezza: un teatro dei poveri, un’arte popolare che Merola affrontava con un’adesione e un’autorevolezza totale. Solo negli anni Settanta intellettuali come Goffredo Fofi (qui intervistato insieme a tanti altri: da Nino D’Angelo a Maurizio de Giovanni, da Marisa Laurito a Valerio Caprara) si accorsero di lui: ma non per fare un esercizio di rivalutazione camp, dall’alto. Perché per capire Merola, le sue radici in una cultura e società, secolare, occorre entrare nel suo mondo. Questo fa il documentario biografico di Ferrari, dando comunque spazio anche a operazioni imprevedibili come Westmoreland Naples di Marcello Garofalo, in cui Merola affrontò il mondo di Jean Vigo, Fassbinder e Allen Ginsberg: come sempre, con una credibilità e un’umiltà straordinarie.
Seweryn, a 30-year-old musician, is about to sign a contract with a small music label. By blending his devotion to Anatolian folklore with aesthetics and channeling this into poetry, he brought a fresh perspective to Turkish cultural life. He meticulously documented his unique artistic vision and outlook on life through his own films. For this documentary, we carefully distilled and compiled 8.5 hours of vibrant 8mm footage that offers a first-hand glimpse into how a significant figure like Bedri Rahmi viewed life and art. The documentary is enriched by the memories of friends, students, and family members, and was edited using these visual archives. It is further brought to life through interviews with esteemed figures such as Ara Güler, Cengiz Bektaş, and Devrim Erbil, gaining additional depth through the personal experiences of his family members.

Struggling to express her feelings verbally, Sa-rang instead uses the love poetry of W.H. Auden as a guide for her life, becoming absorbed in the tragic circumstances of a woman named ‘Love’ who fell into a tragic incident because of her affection. Sa-rang is overwhelmed by love. How far can this love go? In the end, will Sarang find the serene comfort, akin to a state of vacuum, she has long sought?
At the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan border, Aza and Samat work as members of a drug trafficking organization. One day, they run into Nazik, who has narrowly escaped from human traffickers. Aza decides to give up the drug money and save Nazik, but Nazik tragically dies while crossing a river. Aza is determined to at least return Nazik’s remains to her homeland, but his decision thrusts him into even greater danger. The border regions of Central Asian countries, that are located adjacent to Afghanistan where massive amounts of drugs are produced, are hotspots for drug trafficking and organized crime. As those desperate for survival struggle to maintain a shred of dignity, the camera frequently pulls back to capture the vast and indifferent mountainous landscapes of the borderlands. The film is genre-driven but is also captivating with its restrained dialogue and composed visuals.
